Martin Adams and Trina GulliverIn its 26th year of hosting the world championships, the 2011 champions, British Darts Captain Martin Adams and veteran champ Trinia Gulliver, will be defending their titles against an impressive ranger of top players qualifying for the 2012 games to be held from Sunday 7 January to Sunday 15 January.

The 2011 games were some of the most exciting and nailbiting finishes in recent times.

It was characterised as the year of the comeback with players coming from behind to go toe-to-toe for a breath taking finish.

It all took place here at Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Surrey - one of the countries leading entertainment complexes and the undisputed home of World Darts.

The World Professional Darts Championships have been staged and promoted by the British Darts Organisation since 1978 and Lakeside Country Club (established in 1972) has been the host venue since 1986, and the main title sponsor since 2004.

Players from over 30 countries around the globe have competed for the right to be in the final field of 32 men and eight women in the BBC televised championships from 2 - 10 January 2010. There were eleven new faces this year, three of whom made their debuts as seeds.

The games were sold out not too long after tickets went on sale. Those not lucky enough to see it live and experience the unique Lakeside atmosphere joined millions of TV viewers in Britain, Europe and around the globed who watched it via BBC TV Sport and its world partners.

Collectively, the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships are seen by the largest TV audience for darts anywhere in the world. Darts icon
